"Data science" covers very different programmes. Matching the programme type to your background matters more than the title. ## Conversion programmes Designed for graduates without a computing degree. For example, Birmingham's MSc Data Science asks for a 2:1 in any subject other than computing and Monash's Master of Data Science accepts a bachelor's in any discipline (2-year entry). ## Specialist programmes for computing graduates These expect strong programming and maths. Glasgow's Data Science & AI MSc asks for computing as a major subject; Manchester's MSc Machine Learning requires a First in computer science. ## Quantitative and research-oriented programmes Programmes such as UCD's Data & Computational Science (for mathematics, physics, statistics or engineering graduates) or RWTH's Data Science M.Sc. lean towards research and theory. ## What to check 1. Entry requirements — subject and grade.

  1. Core modules — machine learning, statistics, data engineering.
  2. Project or placement — a substantial project helps your portfolio.
  3. English requirement — from IELTS 6.0 to 7.0 across our listings. Search data science programmes now.
